Development Analyst, Direct Appeals

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health invites applications for the position of Development Analyst of the Lucile Packard Children's Fund, the annual giving program benefiting Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health is a public charity that functions as the fundraiser for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford, and for pediatric programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine. The development program is administered by a group of highly-motivated and energetic professional and administrative staff.

Position Summary

The Development Analyst is one of six members of the Children's Fund annual giving team, reporting to the Associate Director of annual giving for Direct Appeals. The Development Analyst will be responsible for managing the execution of key activities of the Direct Appeals program, including direct mail, telemarketing, and online fundraising, as well as other projects as they arise. He/She will be responsible for all data needs of the Direct Appeals program. In addition, he/she will assist the Associate Director in developing the content of direct marketing materials. The Development Analyst will serve as a primary contact with outside vendors of Direct Appeals services as well as with individuals and departments at the Hospital and within the Foundation.

Essential Duties

Direct Appeals/Marketing
The Development Analyst will be responsible for implementing various aspects of the Direct Appeals program. He/She will manage the execution of primary Direct Appeals functions, including but not limited to: developing and pulling mailing lists from the Foundation’s database, crafting and editing necessary materials for solicitation mailings, and handling day-to-day communications with outside vendors to ensure successful mailings. He/She will work closely with the Direct Appeals mailhouse and print vendors, various Foundation staff and departments, Hospital staff, patient families, and donors. The Development Analyst will be responsible for ensuring the quality of Direct Appeals materials by proofing and editing printed marketing pieces, letters, telemarketing scripts, email solicitations, and donor stewardship materials. In addition, he/she will work to craft these materials by identifying appropriate Direct Appeals topics and messaging, developing and edit content and design of Direct Appeals pieces, and participating in strategizing with the Children’s Fund team and the Associate Director.

Data Management and Analysis
The Development Analyst will assume primary responsibility for the data needs of the Direct Appeals program. He/she must be willing and able to manipulate and organize data by pulling lists from the Foundation’s database (Raiser’s Edge) as well as securing data from the Hospital for various uses. The Development Analyst will also be responsible for data tracking and analysis for the annual giving program as a whole, and reporting this information on a monthly and yearly basis. This analytical work will help shape effective Direct Appeal strategies, and the Development Analyst will participate in strategizing and thinking creatively to enhance the Direct Appeals programs.

The Development Analyst must function as a member of the Children’s Fund team by accepting additional responsibilities and assisting others as necessary.

Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities

Experience working in a professional office environment required, as well as 1-2 years of development and/or marketing experience, preferably in annual giving. Bachelor’s degree required.

Excellent skills are required in the following areas: independent decision-making, interpersonal communication, writing, editing, and data manipulation and analysis. Experience with database software and/or ability to become highly proficient at the Foundation’s donor database, Raiser’s Edge is required. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail also required, including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with grace under pressure. The successful candidate will demonstrate good judgment, initiative, flexibility in a deadline-driven environment, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Finally, the successful candidate will be high energy with a sense of humor and must use good judgment and treat confidential information with discretion.
