Job OpportunitiesDevelopment Associate, Annual GivingThe Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health invites applications for the position of Development Associate for Leadership Giving for the Lucile Packard Children's Fund, the annual giving program benefiting Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health is a public charity addressing the special health needs of our region's children. Of primary but not exclusive interest are the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and the pediatric programs of the Stanford School of Medicine. The Foundation will pursue its goals through direct fundraising for children's health research, training, and patient care at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and the pediatric programs at Stanford School of Medicine, as well as strategic grantmaking in the Bay Area. The Foundation also seeks to promote the well-being of children by serving as a source of neutral, timely, evidence-based information. Position Summary The Development Associate is one of six members of the annual giving team, reporting to the Associate Directors for the leadership giving program. The Development Associate will focus on the Leadership giving program (gifts of $1,000-$25,000) and will work on a variety of supportive and independent projects in support of this program. Support staff work will include providing support for constituent management and pulling mailing lists from the Foundation database, assisting with internal mailings, drafting of letters and communications, filing, scheduling Hospital tours, and performing background research. The Development Associate will also coordinate leadership gift solicitation and stewardship materials including crafting of letters and insert pieces, organizing solicitations lists and segments, and working with development officers. Essential Duties The Development Associate will draft correspondence, briefings, and research reports and will be responsible for compiling and organizing research to serve as background for meetings, reports, and solicitations. The Development Associate will work closely, often through e-mail, with Foundation, Hospital, and university staff, exercising discretion on highly confidential and sensitive information. The Development Associate will be required to pull mailing lists from the Foundation database, manage solicitation files, and help with internal mailings as necessary. In addition, the Development Associate will be required to develop, organize, and maintain lists of donors and prospects and update information in the Foundation database. The Development Associate will work with the appropriate supervisor to coordinate leadership gift appeals throughout the year. This will require drafting of letters and appeal insert pieces, organization of mailing lists and appeal segments, and working with development officers to ensure the appropriate individuals are solicited. The Development Associate will help execute a variety of stewardship projects including drafting of letters to accompany stewardship reports and communications, personalizing language for e-newsletters, and assisting as necessary with stewardship events including the development of invitation lists and event programs. The Development Associate will also be responsible for the administrative needs of the leadership giving team, including scheduling Hospital tours and maintaining the stewardship calendar. The Development Associate will maintain filing systems; run financial and constituent reports from the Foundation’s donor database; and make arrangements for meetings by coordinating calendars of staff members, arranging for locations, catering, and other details. Lastly, the Development Associate must function as a member of a team by accepting additional responsibilities and assisting supervisors with special projects involving the compiling of hospital information and data, performing analysis, and other related duties as requested. Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities The successful candidate will be a college graduate and will have excellent support staff skills, including exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. Preference will be given to candidates with previous development experience in annual or individual giving. A thorough knowledge of personal computers is required. Proficiency in word processing programs (Microsoft programs) and Microsoft Excel is essential. Experience with mail merges and on fundraising database software (Raiser’s Edge) is preferred. Attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced and busy environment are required. Exceptional organizational ability, and a demonstrated ability to coordinate a number of projects requiring close timeline management, getting things done through others and independently, is required. The successful candidate will be a skilled, persuasive writer and will demonstrate the ability to represent the Foundation professionally to donors and staff through excellent communications skills, both written and oral. He or she will show good judgment, high energy, the ability to take initiative and work independently when needed, and the capability to work with minimal supervision. These qualities must be balanced by a willingness to ask questions to clarify assignments and a willingness to seek and accept supervisors' guidance in an appropriate manner. He or she will also have strong self-motivation, initiative in follow up, problem solving skills, and a drive to meet set goals. He or she will show a proven ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people and to work independently and as part of a team. Finally, the successful candidate must use good judgment and treat confidential
information with discretion. Willingness to be supportive and flexible
