Friends for Youth’s 10th Anniversary Mentoring Conference: The First Decade of Innovation and Excellence
KEYNOTE PRESENTATIONS & WORKSHOP SESSIONS
• Morning Keynote Derek Clark knows first-hand about coping with adversity and overcoming hardship: his 13 years in the foster system reflect a childhood of humiliation, aggression, emotional distress, and overwhelming anxiety. However, suffering unthinkable child abuse did not hold Derek back from accomplishing what he set his heart and mind on, thanks to his belief in himself and the people who encouraged him to go forward in life to become a successful speaker, author, and singer/songwriter.
• Session One Workshops include Creating a Free Website with Free Online Tools and Positive Youth Development
• Session Two Workshops include Email Communication for Nonprofits and Let Them Fly! Youth Empowerment
• Lunch Keynote Dr. Tom Keller, founder of the Summer Institute on Youth Mentoring at Portland State University, joins us to make sense of the accumulating knowledge and experience from the amazing growth and development of programming along with the expansion of theory and research that address issues in youth mentoring. In his presentation, he will give examples of how models and metaphors can help to make research findings and practice wisdom more interpretable, more memorable, and more relevant.
• Session Three Workshops include Culturally Smart Relationships and Recruiting Volunteers on Any Budget
• Ten half-day pre-conference courses on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at Sofitel San Francisco Bay in Redwood Shores are open to non-mentoring professionals, too!
