Care for All

Did you know?

More than 33 percent of visits to Packard are from families who are covered by Medi-Cal and other government supported programs. But while Medi-Cal provides much-needed aid to families, it does not fully reimburse the Hospital for the cost of a child's treatment. These children who visit the Hospital and its clinics receive financial assistance for some or all of their care thanks, in part, to gifts from the Children's Fund.

Lucile Packard believed that every child deserves the best possible medical care, regardless of his or her family's financial circumstances. Through generous contributions from donors, Packard Hospital stays true to this mission by serving any child in the community in need of medical care, including children without health insurance.

Your gift to the Children's Fund can help cover expenses for families in need of financial assistance, including:

  • Hospital costs
  • Housing for family members
  • Food
  • Transportation
  • Medical equipment
  • Medicine
  • Funeral arrangements

how your donation helps

Gloria was a normal, thriving toddler until she was diagnosed with Fulminant Hepatic Failure, a condition that destroys a healthy liver within weeks after contact with certain viruses or toxins. Gloria needed a transplant immediately, but because her father was new at his job, his insurance refused to cover Gloria's treatment. Knowing she would die without a transplant, Packard made the decision to go forward with the procedure. In just 11 days, Gloria had a new liver. Thanks to the generous support of Children's Fund donors, the Hospital was able to proceed with Gloria's treatment without regard to her family's financial limitations.
