Services at Packard Children's Hospital and Stanford Pediatrics

What types of services does Packard Children's Hospital provide?

Together with pediatric programs at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital offers a full array of research, clinical care, and surgical services for children and expectant mothers. These services range from both primary pediatric outpatient care to advanced specialty services such as cardiology and heart surgery, neurosurgery, liver and kidney transplantation, cancer care and bone marrow transplantation, asthma, neurosciences, psychiatry, and critical care for premature infants.

Along with clinical services, Packard and Stanford physicians are engaged in Pediatric Research to help cure and better treat many childhood diseases and conditions. Packard Children's Hospital also offers many Family and Community Services to support children and their families during hospitalization and to provide outpatient care to those families who may not have access to Packard quality care. Thanks to gifts in support of Care for All children, Packard Children's Hospital is committed to treating any child in the community who needs its services, regardless of the family's financial situation.

    Emergency Department Visits   12,449

What geographical area does Packard Children's Hospital serve?

Children and families from throughout Northern California come to Packard Children's Hospital. In many cases, Packard is the only medical center in the region to provide highly specialized care such as the treatment of cancer and heart defects, organ transplantation, neurosurgery, and neonatal intensive care.

The Children's Hospital, in conjunction with Stanford Hospital & Clinics, also offers one of only two pediatric emergency departments in the Bay Area, combining Packard’s trademark kid-friendly atmosphere with a team of pediatric emergency medicine specialists equipped to handle any medical problem.

Doesn't Packard Children's Hospital have a lot of money from the Packard Family? Why does it need my gift?

The Packard Family made a generous gift to fund the construction of a new children's hospital building which opened as Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital in 1991. Funds to support ongoing operations of Packard Children's Hospital and new research and programs were not a part of this original gift. Like most other children's hospitals, Packard Children's Hospital relies on gifts from individuals, foundations, and corporations to provide high levels of care and groundbreaking research. In fact, private contributions are becoming more and more critical, particularly in today's climate of decreased insurance reimbursement and government support. Packard Children's Hospital's total endowment remains small compared to many other top children's hospitals that have had decades to build community support.

From whom does Packard Children's Hospital receive its support?

In Fiscal Year 2007, private support for Packard Children's Hospital and Stanford pediatric programs came from the following sources:

90% Individuals;
8% Corporate and Foundation Giving;
2% from Events and Auxiliary activities.

Note: These figures do not include Campaign matching funds from The David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
