Adalyn Jay Foundation Endows Chief of Staff Position

WINTER 2005 -- This fall, Harvey J. Cohen, MD, PhD, was named the first Adalyn Jay Chief of Staff at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. A generous gift from the Adalyn Jay Foundation, a private foundation formed by Judi (Adalyn) Ruehle and William (Jay) Ruehle, established the endowed Chief of Staff position. The gift is of tremendous value to Packard as it ensures, in perpetuity, support for the Hospital's medical leader, who has the overall responsibility for the care of patients.

William and Judi Ruehle, with Judi's mother, Betty Staats, and Daughter Michelle Otto holding Maggie.

The Ruehles first experienced Packard Children's Hospital when they attended Packard's new grandparenting class nearly two years ago. After the subsequent birth of their granddaughter, Maggie Adalyn Otto, at Packard in June 2004, the Ruehles became acquainted with Dr. Cohen and the outstanding Hospital staff.

"I am profoundly grateful to the Adalyn Jay Foundation and the Ruehle family for their confidence in Packard Hospital," says Cohen. "As the Adalyn Jay Chief of Staff, and on behalf of all who will succeed me in this distinguished role, I take it as my responsibility to ensure that Packard remains an institution that will further the care of children and pregnant women, and bring about advances that will make children healthier in the future."

In addition to the Chief of Staff endowment, the Adalyn Jay Foundation also made a gift in 2004 to name the respiratory specialties clinic at the new Mary L. Johnson Center for Ambulatory Care.
