Frequently Asked Questions

What are the deadlines for applying for a grant?
The Foundation has two funding cycles each year with funding decisions by the Board taking place in June and November. Applicants are encouraged to contact Foundation staff at Grants@lpfch.org for assistance at any point during the application process. Full timeline of deadlines

Can I fax or e-mail my letter of inquiry?
The Foundation accepts LOI's sent by mail or e-mail.

  • By e-mail: Send an e-mail to grants@lpfch.org with the completed LOI cover sheet, three-page narrative, and Board of Directors information attached. Please send these items as e-mail attachments, rather than in the body of an e-mail.

  • By postal mail: Send the completed LOI cover sheet, three-page narrative, and Board of Directors information to:

How long will it take to find out if my letter of inquiry is approved?
About six weeks.

What happens if my letter of inquiry is approved?
You will be contacted by Foundation staff and invited to submit a proposal. An application packet will be mailed to you at that time.

How often are funding decisions made?
The Board makes funding decisions twice a year, in June and November.

Is the Foundation affiliated with The David and Lucile Packard Foundation or Lucile Packard Children's Hospital?
While the Foundation fundraises for the Hospital and shares interests with The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, it is wholly independent of both.

What is the average size of your grants?
Grant amounts vary. Please see Our Grantees.

Do you only fund one-time grants or will you provide multi-year support?
The Foundation provides both one and multi-year grants, depending upon the project and funding needs.

How often can I apply?
Your organization can apply each funding cycle. If you are a current grantee, you will be eligible to re-apply for funding of the same project in the cycle following the expiration of your current grant period.

Do you fund outside of San Mateo and Santa Clara counties?
We fund non-profit organizations serving the needs of children in these two counties only.

Do you make grants to individuals?
No. Please see What We Do Not Fund.
