Our View of Children's Health

The Foundation embraces the World Health Organization's definition of health as "...complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease of infirmity."

What We Fund

As a community grantmaker for San Mateo and Santa Clara counties, we are committed to prevention, rather than the treatment of childhood disease or injury. Building on that principle, we seek to form partnerships with nonprofit organizations that either represent exceptional promise, or that have already established a track record of effectiveness. Please consult the following page to determine if your program fits our guidelines: As a community grantmaker with limited resources, we inevitably receive more requests for support than we can possibly fund.

The Foundation's Pledge

Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health pledges to:

  • Be clear and consistent about its grantmaking interests, priorities, criteria and decision-making processes
  • Be approachable, responsive, and flexible, working to minimize the burden on a grantee's time and energy
  • Make deciscions based on integrity, equity and fairness
