Improve Services for Kids with Disabilities and
Other Special Needs
- Integration with Organizations Serving Kids
with Disabilities: State
Regional Centers for people with developmental disabilities and other
organizations serving children with disabilities can more fully incorporate
children's dental health into their assessment, planning, and referral
programs.
- Involvement from Dental Professionals: Dental
professionals can participate in training others on treating
and communicating with children with disabilities and other special
health care needs.
- Work with Experts Who Serve These Kids: Experts
on treating this population can actively provide support and information
to other providers.
- Funding Demonstration Projects: Foundations
and government agencies can fund demonstration projects to provide
incentives for prevention, case management, and health education
and referrals for this population.
- Better Reimbursements: Advocates can
lobby for enhanced insurance reimbursement for providers taking the
extra time to serve children with disabilities, and for reimbursement
for preventive treatments.
- Statewide Taskforce: All interested
people can join the Statewide Task Force on Oral Health for People
with Special Needs workgroups to develop strategies for change.
