Survey Results
Below are results of surveys commissioned by the foundation regarding
the health and well being of children:
What Issues Concern
Bay Area Parents?
Stress and weight are high on the list, according to a wide-ranging new
survey that seeks parents' opinions on their children's physical and emotional
health and well being. The survey was commissioned by the Lucile Packard
Foundation for Children's Health.

Well-Being of
Children Tops Californians' Concerns
In February 2005, the foundation commissioned a poll to assess Californians'
degree of concern about matters relating to the well being of children
and to determine which children's issues the public views as priorities.
This poll found that 75 percent of Californians rate "the well-being
of children" as their chief concern, outranking the cost of living,
taxes, the war in Iraq, and terrorism. Additionally, those polled rated
their level of concern about 21 issues specific to children, including
gangs and violence, childhood obesity, peer pressure, and the quality
of education.

Emotional Health
Top Concern for Parents of Preteens
In May 2003, the foundation conducted a survey of parents of preteens
in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. The survey explores what parents
see as most positive in their preteens' lives, as well as what issues
are most challenging. The survey focuses on preteen emotional health.
