CDC: 7,000 Kids Face Adverse Reactions to Cold Medicines
More than 7,000 children end up in the emergency room each year due to reactions to cold and cough medicines, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Researchers found that most of these children took medications unsupervised or were given inaccurate doses. ( Washington Post, 1/28/08, by Stein)
Study: Children with ADHD More Likely to Become Bullies
Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are nearly four times as likely as their peers to be bullies, according to a study published in the journal Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology. In 2006, America 's fertility rate – a measure of the number of children a woman will give birth to during her lifetime – reached 2.1, the theoretical level that's necessary to maintain a country's population. The roughly 4.2 million babies born in the U.S. in 2006 was the most since 1961, and birth rate increases were seen for women in every region of the county and almost all demographic groups, including teenagers, whose rates previously had been dropping.
