Next Preteen Alliance Luncheon: The Care and Feeding of Preteens
As you know from our recent e-mail invitation, the next Preteen Alliance lunch on May 1 focuses on preteens’ exercising and eating habits. There are just a handful of spaces still available. RSVP at http://events.lpfch.org.

More details: Faced with conflicting messages from parents, peers, and media, many preteens -- both boys and girls -- develop negative views about their bodies and have trouble making healthful food and exercise choices. Our next Preteen Luncheon, "The Care and Feeding of Preteens: Helping Them Develop Healthful Habits and a Positive Self-Image," will examine how parents and service providers can guide preteens toward a healthful body image and good eating and exercise habits. This event, sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and The Preteen Alliance, will feature advice, tips, and resources from a physician and a media expert. For more information and to RSVP, visit http://events.lpfch.org.

Promoting Positive Preteen Development

In general, the more exposure preteens have to positive experiences and support during out-of-school time, the better they will fare developmentally, research shows. This brief from Child Trends examines the impact that activities such as regular family dinners and structured after-school programs can have on a preteen's development.
