What Is the Best Way to Survey Preteens?
A synopsis of the newly released Alliance-commissioned report on how to best survey preteens is now available at preteenalliance.org. In the report, Education Training Research (ETR) reviews eight common methods used to collect data from children ages 9 to 13, including surveys (computer-based, PDAs, paper and pencil), diaries, interviews (phone, in person, focus groups), and observational methods. Visit http://www.preteenalliance.org for a summary of the findings and to download the report and share your experiences in surveying youth.

Studies Show Prevalence of Online Bullying
Two recent studies in the Journal of Adolescent Health offer insight into the prevalence of online bullying. A study conducted by the nonprofit research organization Internet Solutions for Kids found that 34 percent of children ages 10 to 15 reported online harassment in the previous year, and 8 percent said they are targeted at least monthly. Another study, conducted by researchers at the University of New Hampshire, found that 9 percent of children ages 10 to 17 reported they have been harassed online in the previous year, an increase from 6 percent in 2000.
