Packard Hospital to Receive
$1 Million in Grants from HP and Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation

PALO ALTO, Calif. – HP and the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital
today announced the pediatric care facility will receive HP technology
valued at nearly $580,000 to enhance the quality of life of critically
ill patients and their families.
In addition, the Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation has provided a cash
grant of $500,000 to jumpstart a progressive research project that will
bring together renowned leaders in quality, safety and bioinformatics
to achieve faster, safer and personalized patient care.
"These grants will help us advance pediatric safety and quality,
empowering Packard Children's to better achieve our mission of caring
for children and expectant mothers," said Christopher Dawes, president
and CEO. "We are excited to come together with HP in an exchange
of knowledge and technology to address critical children's health problems
in Silicon Valley and around the world."
More than 500 units of high-performance HP equipment -- ranging from
notebook and desktop PCs and monitors to HP LaserJet printers -- will
support the hospital's Clinical Transformation Program in multiple inpatient
and outpatient areas. These include critical surgical and intensive care
functions and the implementation of a comprehensive health record system.
HP notebooks also will be available to parents with children on extended
stays so that they can stay connected to their relatives and jobs. Critically
ill patients who are restricted to their rooms because of weakened immune
systems also will have access to HP notebooks.
The one-year interdisciplinary research project funded by the HP Company
Foundation grant will bring together clinicians and researchers from Lucile
Packard Children's Hospital and researchers from HP Labs and HP Life Sciences.
