Released by Kohl's Department Stores
Sept. 27, 2004
MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. — Just weeks before its 11-store debut in
Northern California’s Bay Area, Kohl’s Department Stores today
announced plans to give back to the communities served by its stores through
partnerships with the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford
and the Children’s Hospital and Research Center at Oakland.
Kohl’s goal is to raise $120,000 each year for each of the two
children’s hospitals in the Bay area. The specific programs to be
supported by Kohl’s efforts will be selected based on needs in the
community.
Kohl’s supports children’s hospitals nationwide through its
Kohl’s Cares for Kids? program, which raises funds through the sale
of special items in Kohl’s stores four times each year. The Kohl’s
stores in the Bay Area will sell three books by Karma Wilson titled “Bear
Snores On,” “Bear Wants More,” and “Bear Stays
Up for Christmas” and five plush toys - a bear, rabbit, gopher,
badger and beaver. Each item will be sold for $5 with 100 percent of the
net profits from the Bay Area stores sales going to the Lucile Packard
Children’s Hospital at Stanford, and Children’s Hospital and
Research Center at Oakland.
“We believe in making children’s health and education a priority
in our communities,” said Dave Eske, Kohl’s regional manager.
“Through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program, our company, our
associates and our customers help address the needs for youth in our communities.
We’re proud to be an active part of the community.”
The Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford is at the forefront
of many medical breakthroughs including the development the chicken pox
vaccine, gene therapy and organ transplants. The Lucile Packard Children’s
Hospital at Stanford is responsible for the longest living pediatric heart
transplant recipient (23 years-and-counting). The Children’s Hospital
and Research Center at Oakland has the largest pediatric intensive care
unit in Northern California and serves more than 176,000 patients a year.
The hospital has the only pediatric emergency department and the only
designated pediatric trauma center between Los Angeles and Seattle.
