Family Voices, a national, family-led organization serving families of children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN) and disabilities, works to promote collaboration between families and professionals at all levels of health care to improve health care services and policies for all children.
Families should collaborate in creating the policies and programs that shape the services children, youth, and families receive. With funding from the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, Family Voices created the Family Engagement in Systems Assessment Tool (FESAT) and Family Engagement in Systems (FES) Toolkit – a compendium of strategies and resources to promote collaboration between family leaders, family-led organizations, and health care entities at the systems level where policies and programs are created or improved.
A wide variety of child- and family-serving entities can use the FESAT to:
- Assess how well they engage families in systems-level initiatives
- Improve efforts over time towards meaningful family engagement
- Guide the design of systems-level activities to ensure family engagement
