This webinar is part six of a 10-part seminar series entitled Collaborative Conversations with Families to Advance the Clinical Care of Children with Medical Complexities and Disabilities (C6). The series is led by complex care pediatricians from the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and Lurie Children’s Hospital, and representatives from Family Voices.

In this session Dr. Laurie Glader, Dr. Nathan Rosenberg, Maureen Benschoter, and Sarah Perkins discuss disorders of tone.

Speakers

Sarah Perkins

Family Leader, Boston Children's Hospital

Sarah has spent her life navigating the healthcare system as a patient. As a result, she has seen the benefits of family and professional partnerships firsthand. She is currently a Family Leader for Boston Children’s Hospital. She has a Master of Arts in Pastoral Studies from Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. She also holds 3 US Masters Swimming Top 10 times as a relay swimmer.

Maureen Benschoter

Medical Consultant, Texas Parent to Parent

Maureen is a retired internist and mother of four, including a 20-year-old son with medical complexity. She lives in Austin, TX where she is involved in statewide and local advocacy and service programs including special education and healthcare policy. She currently serves as a medical consultant for Texas Parent to Parent. But first and foremost, Maureen is the main care provider and care coordinator for her son, George.

Laurie Glader, MD

Medical Director, Cerebral Palsy Program, Nationwide Children's Hospital

Dr. Laurie Glader is Section Chief of the Division of Complex Health Care and Medical Director of the Comprehensive Cerebral Palsy Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Glader served as the Outpatient Director of the Complex Care Service and as Co-Director of the Cerebral Palsy and Spasticity Center at Boston Children's Hospital for many years. Dr. Glader has a research interest in how pediatricians can work with multi-disciplinary teams to enhance the lives of children with complex conditions. She edited a book for generalists on the care and management of children with severe forms of cerebral palsy, authored numerous papers and chapters, and speaks widely on children with medical complexity.

Nathan Rosenberg, MD

Pediatric Physiatrist, Nationwide Children's Hospital

Dr. Nathan Rosenberg is Medical Director of the Rehabilitation Inpatient Consultation Service at Nationwide Children's Hospital. Additionally, he participates in outpatient clinics caring for children with cerebral palsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury, and a host of additional conditions that impact how a child functions. He is a member of the neuro-oncology and cerebral palsy comprehensive care clinic teams.

The Children's Specialty Care Coalition hosted a virtual legislative briefing on the recently released commissioned report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine titled, "The Future Pediatric Subspecialty Physician Workforce: Meeting the Needs of Infants, Children, and Adolescents."

This fact sheet summarizes the results of a survey of nearly 650 caregivers of CYSHCN about their experiences trying to access pediatric specialty care in California.
